UPS / Surge protection solutions
Surge protectors or UPSs can safeguard your computer system. Using both a surge protector and a UPS helps guard against less serious power surges, and both a surge protector and UPS provide additional AC sockets for your rapidly PC growing system.
Earthing, Bonding and Grounding solutions
The principal purposes for an “effectively bonded grounding system via a low impedance path to earth” are to provide for the following:
▶ For power supply units with batteries included, the following additional alarms shall be provided:
● When the charging of a battery fails, alternatively if the battery is being discharged
● When the automatic bypass is in operation for on-line units
● Operation of battery protective device
▶ Monitoring and Alarming. The battery charger unit or uninterruptible power system (UPS) unit is to be monitored and an audible and visual alarm is to be given in a normally.
▶ Attended location for the following:
● Power supply failure (voltage and frequency) to the connected load
● Earth fault
● Operation of battery protective device
● When the battery is being discharged
● When the bypass is in operation for on-line UPS units.
● When changeover occurs for battery charger units and DC UPS units required to comply with 4-3-2/7.1.6(c).
▶ An external bypass, that is hardwired and manually operated, is to be provided for UPS to allow isolation of UPS for safety during maintenance and maintain continuity of load power.
▶ UPS units are to be monitored and an audible and visual alarm is to be initiated in the navigating bridge or the engine control room, or an equivalent attended location for:
● Power supply failure (voltage and frequency) to the connected load
● Earth fault
● Operation of battery protective device
● Battery discharge
● Bypass in operation for on-line UPS units.
